'Old Sarum (Mound of the City of Old Sarum - Thunder Clouds), Mezzotint, 1829

£1,500.00
Mezzotint by David Lucas, as directed by John Constable, printed on wove paper.

Finished in 1829 and later issued in part II of English Landscape Scenery in 1831 . Old Sarum was the site of William the Conqueror’s court, which established the feudal system.
Constable made two versions of the plate S. 8 and S. 32. The second plate, begun in 1831 and completed by 1833, was made because Constable was dissatisfied with the terraces in the first version.
