Lucas had started work on this plate in 1831. By March in the following year Constable had decided to include it in Part V of the set but then changed his mind to place it in The Proposed Appendix to English Landscape Scenery. Despite this it remained unpublished until 1845 when it appeared in Mr David Lucas ’A New Series of Engravings, illustrative of English Landscape, from Pictures of John Constable R.A.-1845.
