This poster is from the regular edition of 400 with the printed text. There was a further edition of 100 copies without the printed text, numbered 1/100-100/100 and signed lower right by the artist in ink.
The poster was conceived by Duchamp and Claude Givaudan. The hand holding the cigar is Duchamp's - a detail from a photograph taken in his old Paris studio in the Rue Larrey in May 1967. The smoke, excised from a photograph provided by Pierre Joly of the singer Georges Brassens smoking a pipe, was superimposed by Duchamp.
