'Travels with Pen, Pencil and Ink', Offset Lithographic Poster, 1980

£200.00
Printed on thick wove paper.

Poster created for Hockney's exhibition 'Travels with Pen, Pencil and Ink' held at the Tate Gallery, London, July 2 - August 3 1980.

The poster reproduces Hockney's crayon drawing 'Celia in a Black Dress with White Flowers' of 1972.

Eric Shanes writes of this poster in his foreword essay for 'Hockney Posters' (1987), 'For an exhibition of his collection of drawings and prints entitled 'Travels with Pen, Pencil and Ink', held at the Tate Gallery in 1980, Hockney created a pictorial frame around the reproduction of a drawing by Celia Birtwell, and played a characteristic game by adding stresses to the lettering, even underlining the word 'free' to emphasize the accessible nature of the show.'
