Satan Arousing the Fallen Angels was issued in Part II of Prowett’s Imperial Folio and Imperial Quarto editions of Paradise Lost. The scene shows Satan:

…on the beach

Of that inflamed sea he stood, and called
His legions, Angel forms, who lay intranced
Thick as autumnal leaves that strow the brooks
In Vallombrosa…
their floating carcasses
And broken chariot wheels: so thick bestrown,
Abject and lost lay these, covering the flood,
Under amazement of their hideous change.
He called so loud, that all the hollow deep
Of Hell resounded!… Paradise Lost, Book 1
