Signed and dated lower right.

This print is the first of several works Nevinson completed after the war which address his new found preoccupation with the freedom and frivolities enjoyed in Britain after the war. This was the prototype for his poster 'Lovers To Lover's Lane by Motor-bus'. An alternative description of this piece suggests that it portrays the powerful bond between lovers that had previously been separated by the Great War.

The two figures are derived from two standing figures in Nevinson's 1919 oil on canvas 'Hampstead Heath'.
