The composition is based on an oil painting Nevinson exhibited at the Leicester Galleries, London, in March 1926.
Nevinson often visited the Ile-de-France region with his wife in the mid 1920s. This drypoint depicts a view across the River Seine of the town of Sèvres, known for its famous porcelain production. It is situated just a few miles west of the centre of Paris.
