Two Hand-coloured woodcuts, 1898. Both signed by the artist in black ink and numbered 'no. 27'. Very rare.
 
‘The Fat Man and Thin Man were exhibited at the ‘First Exhibition of Original Wood Engraving’ at the Dutch Gallery in December 1898 (nos. 69-70) and subsequently at the Butterfly exhibition in November 1900 (nos. 113-134)’
 
Only two other examples, with the verse, have been offered for sale in the last 40 years.  A proof example, without the lines of verse, was owned by William Heinemann Ltd and subsequently by Hilary Gerrish.
