'Naturalia', Drypoint, c. 1875-1878.


A very rare hand-coloured drypoint with pencil inscriptions. The first, within the platemark, states ‘Naturalia non sunt turpia - St Jerome’ (private parts are nothing to be ashamed of) in pencil. A further quote from Molière is written in pencil below the image:

Avec la permission de Monsieur, je vous invite à venir voir l’un de ces jours, pour vous divertir, la dissection d’une femme, sur quoi je dois raisonner... - Molière
