Portrait of Helen Couper-Black, the manager of the D'Oyly Carte Theatre Company, secretary and subsequently second wife to Richard D'Oyly Carte. After Carte's death in 1901 she became the manager of the Savoy theatre where she retained the role until 1909.
Sickert submitted an impression of this work as his Diploma print upon his election as Fellow to the Society of Painters-Etchers on 30 March 1887.
